When to Choose the Vibora Over the Bandeja
Picking the right overhead for the ball in front of you.
Once your bandeja is reliable, the vibora gives you a way to hurt opponents without smashing.
What Makes It Different
More sidespin, contact slightly further round the side of the ball, with a whipping action. The ball kicks away after the bounce.
When to Play It
On a lob that is slightly short, when the bandeja would let opponents settle comfortably.
Target the Side Glass
A vibora into the side wall pulls the opponent off court and opens the middle for the next ball.
Keep the Contact High
Same principle as the bandeja — shoulder height or above, in front of the body.
Do Not Overuse It
The vibora carries more risk. One in four overheads is plenty for most club players.
Build It Second
Bandeja first, always. A vibora on top of a shaky bandeja produces errors.
Watch the Pros
Look at how little the arm does and how much the trunk rotates. That is the shot.
