Summer Padel: Staying Cool and Hydrated on Court
Practical advice for playing well when the courts get hot and the rallies get long.
British summers rarely feel extreme, but an enclosed padel court in July is a different environment entirely. Glass traps heat, and outdoor courts offer no shade.
Hydrate Before You Arrive
Drinking during a session is damage limitation. Start topping up two hours before you play, and add electrolytes if you sweat heavily.
Dress for It
Light colours, technical fabrics and a spare shirt for the second half. A sweatband is not a fashion statement when your grip is slipping every third point.
Grip Management
Heat and sweat destroy grips. Carry two overgrips in your bag and change one mid-session rather than fighting a slippery handle.
Adjust Your Game
Heat makes the ball fly. Expect the ball to sit up more off the glass and to travel further on lobs. Take a little pace off and add margin.
Watch for Warning Signs
Dizziness, cramping or a headache means stop. Sit in the shade, drink, and let the others play a set without you.
Recover Properly
Rehydrate with water plus something salty, and stretch while you are still warm. You will feel considerably better the following morning.
