Padel Rules You Probably Get Wrong
Six rules that cause arguments on Nottingham courts every week.
Padel''s rules are simple, but a handful of situations trip up almost everyone.
The Serve
The ball must bounce behind the service line first, and be struck at or below waist height after that bounce. A serve that clips the side wall after landing in the correct box is still good; one that hits the mesh is a fault.
Going Out of the Court
Yes, you can play the ball back after running out of the court door, where the venue allows it. Most club players never try it and that is entirely reasonable.
The Ball Hitting the Mesh
On your side, if the ball hits the mesh after bouncing, it is still in play. Straight into the mesh without bouncing is a lost point.
Double Bounce
One bounce only, as in tennis. The wall is not a second bounce.
Touching the Net
Touching the net or posts during a point loses it, even accidentally.
Knowing these ends most on-court debates in about ten seconds.
