Racquet shape changes how a padel bat feels more than almost anything else. Here is what to pick.
Walk into any padel shop and you will see three broad shapes. The differences are real, and picking the wrong one will hold your game back.
Round
The sweet spot sits in the centre of the face, low down, and it is large. Round racquets are forgiving, control-oriented and ideal for beginners or anyone who values consistency.
Teardrop
A compromise shape with the sweet spot slightly higher. You get more power than a round bat while keeping reasonable forgiveness. Most improving club players end up here.
Diamond
The sweet spot is high and small, producing serious power for players who consistently find the centre. Miss it and the shot dies. This is a bat for strong, experienced attackers.
Weight and Balance
Shape matters, but so does balance. A head-heavy diamond feels dramatically different from an evenly balanced teardrop of the same weight. If in doubt, go lighter.
Try Before You Buy
Most Nottingham clubs offer demo racquets. Play two sessions with a shape before committing. A racquet that feels lively in the shop can feel unmanageable in a long rally.
