Keeping Your Head in a Tight Match
Practical mental habits that hold up at five-all.
Padel matches turn on two or three points. Being calm for those points is a skill.
One Breath Between Points
A single slow exhale before you turn to serve. It is the simplest reset there is.
Have a Routine
Bounce the ball twice, check your partner, serve. The routine carries you when the nerves arrive.
Play the Next Ball
You cannot fix the last point. Naming that out loud — "next one" — genuinely works.
Set Process Goals
"Every lob lands past the service line" is controllable. "Win this set" is not.
Support Your Partner
Encouragement after an error keeps their next three shots loose. Silence tightens them.
Slow Down When Losing
When points are running away, take the full twenty seconds. Momentum needs rhythm and you can break it.
Finish Well
Whatever the score, play the last game properly. It is the one you remember on the drive home.
